Inter–House One Act Play

To expose the dramatic talents of students at Heritage Girls School, an Inter-House One-Act play was held in the school auditorium on 1st August 2022. This tradition of organizing one-act play as an inter-house competition was taken to another dimension this time by the challenge given to the four Houses of throwing the onus of researching, scripting, casting and performing the plays on the House members themselves. Based on the theme, Beyond Borders, the story, culture and traditional concepts of four other countries bordering our own, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, were to be explored and presented. Lopamudra House chose to depict a deeply traumatic and tragic story that played out in the lives of a Pakistani family that was displaced and rendered homeless due to the Partition Atreyi House picked the theme of the Kumari tradition still followed in Nepal. The students beautifully projected and staged the problematic stages and travails that a Kumari, the young girl revered and worshipped during her tenure as Kumari, must endure. The beauty of the play performed by Gargi House stole the show away with the presentation of Afghanistan and its culture and tradition. The play successfully revealed the differences between Afghanis and the Taliban, which was unknown to our students. Lastly, Maitri House depicted a moving documentary on how women freedom fighters were treated during the liberation of Bangladesh. These women were kidnapped and taken to concentration camps, where they were brutalized.

square One: Sometimes the strength within you is not a big fiery flame for all to see, it is just a tiny spark that whispers ever so softly, “you need to keep going, despite your setbacks”. At times, we notice that when things are finally falling into place, something happens that puts us back to square one. Coming back to square one is a time to reflect and start over again with more knowledge, power and experience, than we had before. When we come to a dead end, it does not mean that our journey has ended, it is just a calling for us to take another path or devise new plans and strategies; open new doors and explore new territories and tell the World, one deserves better. So let us start at Square One and promise that we will never be afraid to get to the start line time and again.
